The CLIMAITE project aims to investigate how the carbon exchange between ecosystem and atmosphere may be affected by climate changes. The soil respiration plays a fundamental role in the global carbon cycle and possible responses to climate change may be mediated through changes in the diurnal pattern of soil respiration. An important factor controlling the soil respiration is the soil microbes. The project aims to investigate the diurnal patterns of soil respiration further by campaigns of intense, diurnal measurements with chambers at the CLIMAITE site, possibly aided by laboratory experiments and soil chemical analyses of the soil microbial biomass.
