Changes in the climatic factors will potentially change the decomposition of organic matter in the soil and the nutrient cycling. Such nutrient dynamics are often studied by extraction of soil water from the soil by vacuum collectors or free draining of water. Alternatively, nutrient dynamics may be studied by installation and retrieval of ion exchange resins, which collects anions and cations. The CLIMAITE study provides an opportunity to compare these methods. The resin technology is known and described, but small resin sticks for application in the CLIMAITE plots need to be developed and installed. The soil water collections will be combined with installation of the ion resin sticks and the results from the ion exchange and the soil water sampling will be combined in order to assess the different methodologies.
