Photo-inhibition is a natural process occurring in plants when light harvesting exceeds the consumption of energy equivalents in photosynthetic processes. This dual dependency on capacity of source and sink processes are very likely to be affected by global change factors as manipulated within the CLIMAITE project. Detection through state of the art simultaneous gas exchange and fluorescence can unravel the responses and their mechanisms. Potentially this can advance our eco-physiological understanding of heath plants and evaluate the relative importance of photo-inhibition processes in a future climate.
